WHY GO? The Shack is a Samui institution that has earned its reputation for great food and good times. The lively atmosphere makes it the perfect casual dining experience for the whole family.

WHAT TO ORDER? It’s hard to decide as everything here is good. Daily specials are found on the blackboard, but when in doubt ask a waiter or speak to vibrant local celebrity owner Larry Snyder to choose a favourite. Start with seared Alaskan sea scallops in butter garlic sauce or Shack carpaccio. Both are fantastically delicious and are served perfectly portioned. With a grill that allows diners to watch their food being cooked, the experienced grill masters cook to perfection. Try grilled Australian lamb, or any of the prime cuts of steak, cooked to order and served with a choice of home-style cooked side dishes and sauces including coleslaw and baked potato, scrumptious and absolutely guaranteed to satisfy. If you are in the mood for seafood, Alaskan king crab legs are impressive to look at and incredibly good.

The Shack has a wellstocked wine cellar in the centre of the dining area, with a reasonably priced selection. The staff and owner are very helpful.
