WHY GO? RE KA TA is the Boathouse’s brand-new,
Fredo Taffin-designed beach club on Kata beach. Within
the confines of its cool white decor, it offers cocktails
and wine at the beachside bar, a light, fresh tapas-style
food menu in an indoor/outdoor setting and a cool, chic
music and party vibe lasting late into the night.
WHAT TO ORDER?
South African chef Bryan Burger
grew up by the beach so the seafood offerings are a
highlight here, ranging from local snapper and abalone
to yellowfin tuna and Phuket lobster. The rest of
the menu features reasonably-priced light beachside
dining with a broad tapas selection, salads, sandwiches
and pastas, served by attentive staff. The emphasis
is on healthy cuisine, but with a hint of naughtiness
as in Sinful Selection that features chocolate fudge
and organic buffalo ice cream. Other desserts such
as tropical fruit parfait, with oat and nut crumbs and the
selection of organic ice creams will keep you lingering
long into the night when RE KA TA turns into a nightclub.
The wine list concentrates
more on reasonably-priced
new World stars from new
Zealand and Australia, with
a few heavier European
standards to flesh out the
breadth of styles available.
