WHY GO? Indian Host is a mid-range eatery that has
become popular with Bangkok’s Indian community
since its 2008 opening. North Indian favourites are
executed competently while an Indian-Chinese fusion
menu offers less conventional fare.
WHAT TO ORDER?
Start with mix tandoori kebab platter.
A gift to the indecisive, the dish features chicken, lamb,
fish and prawn kebabs, all cooked in traditional style in
the restaurant’s clay oven. Samosas, either stuffed with
vegetables or lamb and served with a robust and fruity
tamarind sauce, are another satisfying appetiser. Also
from the tandoor is kabuli raan, a house favourite billed
as a soft and tender lamb kebab that largely succeeds
in what it sets out to do. Butter chicken is an indulgent
delight, with a creamy, slightly sour sauce that is perfect
for mopping up with the restaurant’s excellent naan.
The more adventurous may wish to try the restaurant’s
Indian-Chinese fusion menu, which includes dishes
cooked in blends of spices from both cuisines.
The wine selection is limited,
though there are some
reasonable labels on offer. Beer
may prove a better option for
many.
