The Knolls

Aptly named Grill & Chill, the Sunday-only lunch buffet at The Knolls at Capella offers a smorgasbord of favourite foods in elegant surrounds. At a very reasonable $128 per adult inclusive rose wines and speciality Belgian beers, the house is packed with well-decked out diners intent on both grilled and chilled items.

Starting out with the chilled counters, we found large crayfish, succulent sweet prawns, fresh oysters, scallop on the half-shell and to round it off on the salad section, hand-carved Spanish Serrano ham and Scottish beetroot gravlax in fetching blush tones. Displayed in small quantities, the fresh items were promptly restocked as soon as demand surfaced.

Sizzling items on the grill soon beckoned, drawing us to load up on pudgy sausages, satay skewers, snapper fillet, chicken yakitori, lamb cutlet, pork ribs and beef filet steak - and more of the large prawns, this time grilled perfectly with lemon and chilli. This part required some planning as most items are grilled to order, so the modus operandi is to make your order at the grill counter, and your platter will then be delivered to your table along with several sauces.

Another surprise that arrived at the table was the chef's creation of the day - a small bowl of punchy chicken curry, almost as good as mum's. A peacock mama and her brood strutted hopefully in search of scraps, as picturesque as the hotel pool and ocean view backdrop. The resident band at Bob's Bar, Idlus, also adds to the congenial mood with their live performances.

Dessert is another chapter, with a laden counter of ice creams, macarons, mousse and cakes alongside cheeses and even our favourite - churros sticks with chocolate dip. Grill & Chill takes place noon to 2.30pm every Sunday at The Knolls, Capella Singapore, 1 The Knolls, Sentosa, 6591 5046.
