Taratata Bistro

Have no qualms at Taratata Bistro. Its name, loosely translated from French slang as ‘whatever' or ‘no worries', sets the tone for a casual but no less gourmet night out. Long-time friends and chef-owners Philippe Nouzillat and Bertrand Raguin have finally opened their dream restaurant, where you can find "good food that you can eat everyday." Indeed, the checked tile flooring, pendant lamps and wooden panelled banquette seating beckon diners to linger, whether for lunch or a late dinner - they stay open till 1am on Fridays, and 2am on Saturdays.
For starters, a generous charcuterie platter is laden with homemade chicken liver pate, duck rillettes, salami, prosciutto and a thick slice of duck terrine flavoured with brandy. Rustic dishes in cassoulet pots include plump escargots with wild mushrooms, a gorgeous buttery version that's a welcome change from the usual garlic butter (also on the menu), and hearty duck confit with white bean cassoulet, which provided a lovely gravy to the tender, fragrant duck leg.
If you opt for the fantastic value two- ($28) or three-course ($32) lunch sets, choose between seven items for appetisers and five items for main course, including chicken cordon bleu, crispy pork belly and onglet beef in peppercorn sauce. Our pick from the lunch set was the sautéed cod fillet, one of those deceptively simple sounding items that turned out to be a perfectly seared piece of cod dressed with potato wedges, green beans and a thick tomato puree - comfort food rendered with French finesse. 35A Keong Saik Road.
