Sque Rotisserie & Alehouse

Sque, overlooking the Singapore River is Emmanuel Stroobant Group's newest offspring. The name is derived from the word ‘skewers' - referring to the rotisserie concept of this casual bistro.

Away from the Riverside Point and Clarke Quay crowds, this cruisey venue is just the place for you to pull up a chair and watch the world go by. The tables at the terrace allow plenty of elbow room too.

One of the highlights is the mind-boggling list of over 200 types of international beers from Belgium, Germany, the UK and even Asia. The bevy of chilled draft and bottled beers are backed by high quality food.

The bulk of the menu consists of hefty slabs of meat - which are all ideal for sharing between a few friends. Start with the Sque platter of chicken wings, fried onion blossoms, potato skin, chilli crab cake and aioli dip.

Then gear up for the combi platter stacked with chunky pork belly, tender slabs of beef ribs, and pork ribs paired with a sticky, shiny barbecue sauce as well as chicken wings marinated with paprika, garlic, soy sauce, saffron and black pepper. Beyond meat items, you can dive into the steamed clams with garlic, olive oil, parsley and pepper. Ours didn't stay too long in the bowl.

Big flavours dominate too in items such as the rich braised snails in butter, garlic, mushroom, tomato and parsley or the bone marrow mixed with wild mushroom, garlic, and parsley - scrape up the gelatinous goodness and slather on golden toast.

Rotisserie specials need a two-day advance order. If you're planning to throw a party here, then feast on the piglet guling marinated with lemon grass, chilli padi, candle nuts, coriander, ginger and shallots.

To round off, the dense and decadent chocolate beer pie is heaven for chocolate lovers. Think: pure origin dark chocolate ganache, spiked with Kriek beer and topped with chocolate ice cream. Other sweet items include vanilla crème brulee with gula Melaka and crumble with fruit of the day and vanilla ice cream. For the undecided, a range of set lunches is available too. And of course, the solid list of beers and wines is a great excuse to stick around even after your meal is over.
