Sarong Grill & Chill

Sate and spice lovers will enjoy dining at the new Sarong Grill and Chill at Millenia Walk. Affordably priced, the bar and restaurant offers a slew of skewered options – chicken, beef, mutton, chicken skin, beef tripe and lung as well as veggies and seafood. What stands out are the accompanying sauces, in particular the Jakarta-style sauce made with kecap manis (Indonesian sweet sauce), shallots and chillies and homemade sambal sauces (udang, hijau, etc). For a more communal touch, try the 2 feet sate (assortment of meat) or 3 feet sate (meat and seafood).

For mains, the Nasi Tumpeng presents a statuesque ‘cone’ of rice that is eaten with several sides such as urap (cabbage mixed with grated coconut), sambel tempe (fermented beancurd with chilli) and meat and seafood dishes. Other hearty mains include the Lontong Veggie Stew and Rendang Burger. The stew is thick gravy served hot with rice cakes, cabbage, carrots and long beans. Sarong’s variation has an addition of thinly sliced fried fish that adds on to the taste dimension. The Rendang Burger on the other hand is tender shredded beef sandwiched by soft buns. To ensure that the burger doesn’t turn soggy, the sauce is served on the side.

To top the meal off, try the Red Hot Martini with just enough zing to excite the taste palates. Desserts are the lovely panna cotta with palm sugar and brownie with peppery pineapple. 9 Raffles Boulevard, #01-03, Millenia Walk, Tel: 6837-2728
