Dining at the Raffles Grill at Raffles Hotel speaks of an elegance and attention to fine cuisine that is always welcomed for dinner, but may not always be practical for lunch. Hence, Raffles Grill makes it easier to enjoy a classically French mid-day repast in their charming garden-facing dining room with their Menu Du Jour luncheon. The light options are beautifully plated for delighting the taste buds as well as the senses, with three options available for appetisers, mains and desserts. Diners choose between two-courses ($42) or three-courses ($58), with a perfect pairing of selected wines by the glass at $18.
The menus change weekly, courting the best produce that the chefs receive each week. The appetisers could include a tomato and basil risotto with a slice of pan-seared sweetbread, or fresh plump prawns on a bed of stuffed rigatoni, with decadent lashings of truffle oil. For mains, look for items such as duck breast with sauteed fairy rings, red pepper and caline sauce, or perfectly pan-seared fillets of pomfret given a princely treatment with seafood jus. Desserts again are light on the palate but substantially flavourful; the cherry nage with basil sorbet was a sweet ‘soup' of poached cherries permeated with rich aromas, while a work of art was served in the form of poached apricot served with sable and verbena sorbet. Our accompanying wine was a young, flinty petit chablis, with a refreshing lemony nose, which matched the delicate cuisine perfectly. Newly appointed restaurant manager Stephen Moroney brings with him years of experience at Michelin-starred restaurants, ensuring impeccable service to delight your lunch companions.
Menu Du Jour is available Mon-Fri, 12 noon - 2pm. Raffles Hotel, 1 Beach Road, 6412 1816 or email dining@raffles.com.
