Already a fan of Picotin just off the old Turf Club? Well, there's plenty more good reasons to return this month as Chef Sebastien Reullier launches a menu studded with mouthwatering gems, and at very reasonable prices.
Order up appetisers like king prawns served with tangy mango salsa and beetroot glaze (S$15); and pork and sage terrine with tasty onion marmalade (S$16) to whet your appetite. Yummy mains to look forward to include baked pork tenderloin filled with prunes, asparagus, tomato and served with creamy mashed potato and cider sauce (S$26), and breaded lamb chop, portobello mushroom, almond potato dauphine and garlic confit sauce (S$30).
Dessert lovers have long been raving about Picotin's wonderfully light sticky date pudding with toffee sauce and ice cream (S$11) and apple crumble scented with cinnamon (S$10). The good news is: there is more good stuff where that came from. Brand new desserts to wow the sweet-toothed include the scrumptious-sounding red berries and frangipane tart with rum-raisin ice cream (S$10), and rhubarb clafoutis with calvados ice cream (S$10).
Regulars will be happy to know that Picotin's all-time faves still reign on the menu. We love the wood-fired pizzas (from S$19) that are crisp, fresh and generously loaded with toppings - try the Brumby, a fabulous time-tested pairing of tomatoes, mozzarella and smoked bacon, with an egg, cracked on top just before the pizza's cooked, so that the yolk is still gorgeously runny.
The folks here have also very thoughtfully offer kiddy menus for the young ones, and a well-stocked bar for its more weathered guests. They open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner, but we think the best time to visit is when you need a little treat and an escape from the concrete jungle. That's when you should definitely park yourself at this sunny, green setting, recharge with some pints of delicious Belgian beer and soak in the lovely ambience. And yes, tuck in.
