This cosy spot tucked inside the Singapore Indoor Stadium is an absolute charmer. It has been feeding guts and souls for years, but the menu changes quarterly, so there's always something new for the palate. Expect traditional bistro-style staples - steak frites, gratinated onion soup and classics such as the Caviar de Pauvre (a verrine of eggplant and garlic puree, chicken liver mousse and Pernod crème fraiche, served with sliced of toast) and a red onion and blue swimmer crab salad served with avocado mousse, candied walnuts and chilled gazpacho. A must-try is the cream of roasted garlic soup - impossibly piquant on the nose, seductively smooth on the tongue and simply comforting. As if the soup isn't enough of a treat, it is served with a toasted sandwich of duck rilette and Emmental cheese. The whole experience at Le Bistrot is simply magical. - Koh Yuen Lin
