Set atop Marina Bay Sands with a breathtaking view that overlooks much of the financial and central business district, nightclub and restaurant Ku De Ta may seem an unlikely spot for a business or casual breakfast, but its new offerings are top-notch. For now at least, while the breakfast menu is still new, you'll be far removed from the madding throng of hotel guests and tourists on the ground floor.
The semi-buffet style breakfast is divided into two - a cold section of cheeses, breads, pastries, fresh juices, hams, jams and salmon, and a hot selection of seven dishes made a la minute. These are dishes that Chef Dan Segall likens to comfort food to start your day with - waffles, eggs, omelettes, congee and his favourite chicken-fried steak.
The waffle, on the day we tried, was filled with pistachios and generously accompanied by a dollop of the smoothest cream and syrup. Forget the frozen waffle style (though we wouldn't expect anything like that here to begin with); the big, thick waffle was crunchy and crisp but still light. For those who love runny eggs, the two eggs baked in claypot are a treat, alongside shakshuka , a tomato-based slightly spicy sauce. The chicken-fried steak and eggs - something from Segall's US roots - are not for those with a small appetite, but the taste is so homely and down-to-earth, you won't want to stop. If you can't decide which one you want, order them all - the buffet price includes unlimited hot and cold selections.
Also on offer are free-flow milkshakes and smoothies - try the coco lychee smoothie for something refreshing, or the cherry coco shake if you're indulging a little.
The breakfast buffet is priced at $42 per adult, and $21 per child aged 5 - 12 years old.
