We all know that beauty comes from within. The folks at Japanese Dining Sun has taken this adage quite literally and is serving up beauty meals to help its guests stay beautiful, inside and out. From now till 8 June, Chef Toshio Sawai is serving up a beauty menu designed to whet appetites as well promote wellness and beauty.
The restaurant even roped in the help of Japanese cosmetic powerhouse Shu Uemura in creating its special menu, so expect the real deal here. Dishes feature a liberal use of natural ingredients like Sakura leaf, sesame, green tea, Shiso leaf and Japanese plum, all of which have anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant and healing properties.
For starters, we sampled the half-broiled salmon sushi rolls with Sakura leaf (S$13.80) and stewed pork steamed with Sakura leaf (S$10.80). The stars of the menu, however, are the beauty hot pots. Try the skin-nourishing collagen hot pot (S$15.80) served with pork ribs, white radish, mushrooms and, you guessed it, a collagen ‘ball' made from all-natural animal collagen. To 'reverse' the ravages of time, there is also an anti-oxidant green tea hot pot, a sizzling stew of beef cooked in green tea soup. Finish off the meal with tropical fruits served with prune parfait (S$8.80) and the red bean mochi roll wrapped with Sakura leaf (S$3.80). - James Leong
