Italiannies, an American-Italian concept restaurant by ChasWood
Resources, has been successfully running in Kuala Lumpur for several
years. Now in Singapore, the establishment adopts a family-style eating
philosophy with hearty serving portions – dishes are meant to be shared
and enjoyed with good company.
All diners are offered
complimentary house-made bread served with olive oil ("infused with
seven secret spices and herbs”, we were told) and a 12-year aged
balsamic vinegar. The Sicilian chicken salad with pine nuts, red grapes,
and mangoes (a nice local substitution for peaches in the traditional
version) tossed in a lemon-Dijon dressing is light and has a
surprisingly nice balance of fruity, sweet and savoury flavours.
Another specialty is the grilled chicken Milanese. Chiffonnade spinach in a creamy sauce and tomato caper relish suitably accompanies tender chicken breast. With plump morsels of capers bursting in the mouth and the acidity of tomatoes melding nicely with the sweetness of basil, red onions and garlic, the dish is full of robust flavours. Other dishes worth a mention include the shrimp linguine smothered in vibrantly red tomato sauce and the luscious liqueur-laden tiramisu. #01-02, Triple One Somerset, 111 Somerset Road.
