Amid the slew of ramen restaurants that have been launched around
town, IPPUDO TAO sets itself apart with two special editions of its
signature pork-bone broth ramen, a variety of kushiyaki, and unique a la
carte dishes. In 1985, Shigemi Kawahara created his personal “tao”
(way) of ramen with a delicious and creamy pork-based broth that earned
his restaurant Ippudo, instant acclaim. Today Ippudo does business in 49
locations throughout Japan, and Kawahara is celebrating Tao in another
way – a Japanese drum and entertainment group internationally renowned
for their ubiquitous brand of entertainment. A fusion of gourmet food
and culture, IPPUDO TAO allows diners to feast while enjoying Tao’s
performances via a large screen TV and Tao’s soundtrack, which plays in
the restaurant.
IPPUDO TAO’s elegant interior is a fusion of red
and black shades and clean lines that confer an air of relaxed
formality, making it a hotspot for entertaining business associates.
While IPPUDO TAO offers the house’s signature Ippudo Shiro with
pork-bone broth, pork loin, cabbage and black fungus, diners should not
miss the Tao Kuro and the Tao Aka, specially created to reflect Tao’s
spirited dynamism and passion. The Tao Kuro – the heavier and richer of
the two, features thick chewy noodles served in shoyu pork-bone broth,
pork belly, black fungus, and a special miso paste. The Tao Aka with its
delicious red and spicy soup is a blend of Ippudo’s signature broth
with Japanese fish stock, spicy miso paste and topped with pork belly.
Besides
ramen, try the restaurant’s kushiyaki, which includes an array of
popular bites like crispy chicken skin topped with special Japanese
salt, juicy chicken wings, and succulent pork belly. A la carte
specialties not to be missed include the pork with leek and bamboo
shoots – a slightly spicy, refreshing appetiser with added crunch from
the bamboo shoots, and the silky tofu salad with spicy miso paste.
