Founded by Mrs Oh, a former culinary instructor, Gaia Korean
Restaurant offers Korean cuisine that is authentic and homey. A meal at
Gaia is reminiscent of a heart-warming dining experience at the home of a
Korean friend. Incorporating only the freshest produce, all items on
the menu are homemade, even the translucent sweet potato flour noodles
for the popular cold noodle dish of mool naengmyun is prepared within
the restaurant premises. Oh assures that her wholesome dishes are not
laden with MSG, salt and sugar used.
Side dishes (banchan) are
made in-house too. There are over 20 kinds of these appetising items
served on a rotation basis (you will get six during the meal). Some of
them include Gaia’s signature kimchi (pickled cabbage), mul kimchi
(water kimchi) and yoengeun jorim (lotus root simmered in a seasoned
broth). To start your meal, share dishes such as haemul pajeon, an
omelette-like seafood pancake, or slurp up home-style soups. Unique ones
include the comforting dongtae tang or spicy pollack soup made with
Korean anchovies, leeks and onions, as well as ox bone soup – a milky
broth rendered from collagen-rich ox bones and served with toasted sea
salt and Korean mustard.
The highlight at Gaia is its selection
of barbecued meats marinated in a homemade concoction of salt, sesame
oil, sugar and black pepper. A variety of meats and cuts are available,
including gaia kotsal (top-grade short beef rib), jumulluck (seasoned
beef rib), and dweji galbi (marinated pork rib with bone). Prepare them
yourself on the table grill or request for them to be served cooked.
This restaurant is perfect for a quick lunch break or a leisurely meal
on the weekend. 3 Temasek Boulevard, #03-10/12, Suntec City Mall, Tower
