Authentic Spanish restaurant, Don Quijote was launched at the buzzing
Dempsey enclave last month. Its first outlet in Bukit Timah was opened
two years ago, but needing more space for their growing number of
customers, the owners decided to take this expansive space located in
Block 7.
The cream of pumpkin and leek is a hearty start to the
meal, but if you prefer something lighter, opt for the cold gazpacho.
There is a host of well executed tapas to bite into including the garlic
fried shrimps; tender cubes of beef cheeks; garlic fried mixed
mushrooms; and pimentos del piquillo – tuna stuffed in juicy red
‘piquillo’ peppers. Perfect when paired with chilled red or white
sangria. Robust dishes great for sharing include the oxtail stew with
carrots and chickpeas. The large chunks of meat are cooked for six hours
until they are fork tender, and bathed in a deliciously thick gravy.
One of the restaurant’s highlights is the Paella Especial, cooked al
dente and brimming with clams, prawns, mussels, and squid. The
restaurant buys market fresh fish every day from different sources
around the island, so you are assured of only the freshest catch.
Desserts-wise,
the bread and butter pudding is moist, fragrant and irresistible. And
the fried milk pudding is crispy on the outside and silky smooth inside.
Don Quijote @ Dempsey stocks an extensive range of Spanish wines which
the owner sources during his trips to Spain. This venue is perfect for a
night out with friends or a relaxing weekend meal with the family. 7
