Making full use of the eclectic interior space of the shopping mall, Covelli has nestled itself quite comfortably across the 3,000 square feet corner, creating a little retail haven of its own with its bistro, wine bar and fashion boutique concepts.
Designed with a semi-open concept, the casual chic bistro serves modernised rustic Italian fare complemented with over 50 wines from Italy, Australia, France and Spain from the trendy wine bar located across the walkway. Next door, the fashion boutique houses womenswear label ESYE with apparels ranging from casual outfits to evening dresses and accessories like jewelleries and bags.
Helmed by chef Dennis Ong, the kitchen offers delicious bites such as the capesante e gemberi starter composed of pan-seared prawns with a rich semi-sundried tomato puree, placed atop a luscious scallop and a bed of sweet onion confit. Crowning each portion is a heap of Avruga caviar, lemon butter, and a sprinkling of micro shiso for a contemporary twist. Fans of duck liver will be delighted by the unctuous foie gras d'anatra served with caramelised apples, fresh arugula, a flaky puff pastry, and finished with a drizzle of pinot noir reduction and lemon butter.
Highlights from the pasta and rice menu include the Covelli Speciale, featuring ricotta and spinach-stuffed tortellini in a luxuriant cheese fondue sauce with smoked salmon and green peppercorns, as well as the risotto zaffron with prawns, scented with saffron sauce which lends it a vibrant yellow hue. The oozy saffron risotto is also paired with the ossobucco (bobby veal shank braised in white wine and tomato sauce), ideal for the more carnivorous few. Seafood lovers must try the merluzzo con asparagi - a succulent pan-seared codfish with crispy skin, served with potato gratin, fresh asparagus, carrot puree glace and veal jus.
The sweet-toothed will enjoy desserts such as the sticky date pudding with vanilla ice cream and butterscotch sauce, the surprisingly light homemade traditional Italian tiramisu topped with shaved chocolate, and the indulgent warm flourless chocolate cake served with vanilla ice cream.
