The latter, without a doubt, are what draw many loyal customers - Brussels Sprouts stocks an amazing selection, ranging from 3.6 per cent to 9.5 per cent in alcohol content, from malty, full-bodied varieties such as the popular Affligem Blonde to the light and fruity such as the passion fruit, banana or apricot-flavoured beer.
Diners will be spoilt for choice here. Take your pick from bar food and such nibbles, to the full works with salads, main courses, side dishes and desserts. The mussels are a favourite with regulars. Flown in weekly from Australia, they are prepared in myriad ways, including tom yam-style in a spicy tangy lemongrass broth and the more traditional vin blanc broth, which imparts a buttery wine flavour. Whichever the style, the mussels are always served with a generous portion of golden frites, Belgian-style, of course. The best part? You get free refills of frites to help you mop up the delish sauces!
Bigger appetites can opt for the mains such as the lamb tenderloin, done perfectly and served on a Portobello mushroom, although the duck confit was a little overcooked and dry on our last visit. Dessert lovers will enjoy the vanilla crème brulee that comes with a nice crisp top.
All in all, the eatery prides itself on offering innovative deals such as late night and weekend specials for the family (including hiring an illusionist to entertain guests). Despite its main stable of Belgian beer, it also boasts a generous wine list (priced between S$60 and S$320 per bottle), with reasonably priced house wines (S$12 to S$20 per glass).
