In the midst of decrepitude that has befallen the Malate district of Manila is the elegant Hyatt Hotel and Casino. Ensconced in the heart of the hotel is a culinary jewel, a restaurant called the Fireplace, otherwise known as meat heaven.
This is the height of luxe, understated but luxe nevertheless. This means you’ll have to be prepared to spend. One look at the menu will confirm that. It offers a Millionaire’s Salad among others (pan-fried foie gras puts it in the millionaire’s category). Budget-conscious gourmands needn’t despair, though, as portions are quite generous and one serving should suffice for two (unless of course you’re a 1000-lb behemoth). So the best advice is: go for it! Order anything with the word wagyu in it as you will be treated to the most luscious, mouth-watering, exquisite beef this side of Kobe. The restaurant also offers four set menus, all of which revolve around meat, meat, meat as the main dish. If eating all this meat makes you feel guilty, order something green to decorate your dish and assuage your conscience. Then attack the meat con mucho gusto!
