Comfort food by its very definition is commonplace cuisine that brings you back to times past. Apartment 1B, located in Salcedo Village cosily provides just this and more. The moment one sets foot through the doors, it is impossible to miss the collection of bright red paintings of feathered fowl. The smart but casual interior of the establishment is reminiscent of Parisian cafés with a contemporary touch.
Once one is seated in any one of the comfortable couches they are presented with, one can plump for a variety of cuisines. Though comfort food dominates the menu, besides your good ‘ol Fish and Chips, one will be delighted to find Foie Gras as well. The Foie Gras is served with an interesting and innovative pineapple compote and raspberry-merlot sauce. There is also a wide variety of sandwiches—from the Reuben Sandwich made of Rye bread, beef pastrami, sauerkraut, Thousand Island dressing and French fries to the generous Beef Burger with a whole-wheat bun with either cheddar or Swiss cheese.
The entrées are just as delectable. Whether one succumbs to the Steak Frites made of U.S. certified Angus Rib eye with French fries, or the impossibly succulent Poached Salmon with tomato hollandaise sauce and parsley potatoes, none will disappoint. For dessert, the pièce de résistance is the White Toblerone Cheesecake who’s appealing and luscious exterior surprises with its winning interior.
A large measure of the attraction with Apartment 1B is its no-frills approach, generous portions and design. One gets the feeling that the food is served with warmth and a dash of panache. It is simply comfort food at its best.
