Top 5 Shopping Mall Restaurants

After a shopping expedition with friends, check out our recommended mall restaurants to recharge, refuel and review the contents of your purchase while you’re at it

Isola at IFC mall
After a mad spending spree at IFC plaza, you're probably in need of a soothing detour to dispel the anxiety of your upcoming credit card bill. If that’s the case comfort foods like pizzas or pastas usually do the trick. Take refuge at Isola, which delivers these basics consistently well. The menu is proficient in authentic Italian pastas obviously handmade judging from its al dente bounce and elasticity. Isola’s pizzas have a loyal following too, made fresh in the main dining room’s open kitchen where chefs are rolling, stretching and flinging the dough, then dressing it with fresh and quality toppings, than fired in a stone oven. What arrives on your table is a thin-crusted pie, the base remains subtly crisp, in topping combinations- like most dishes at Isola- leaning to familiar Italian classics but also those liberally sprinkled with luxe ingredients, including the trifola, a black truffle, crescenza and mozzarella pizza (HK$208). Coupled with a setting dedicated to lounging and lingering, especially the terrace revealing sweeping sea views, Isola is essentially an inviting oasis for anyone seeking a mellow and breezy distraction.

Shop 3071-3075, 4011, Level 3 & 4, IFC Mall, Central. Tel: +852 2383-8765.

BLT Steak at Ocean Terminal
Touring in and out of stores, sifting through racks and racks of clothing: shopping can be a taxing exercise, one that works up quite an appetite. Suddenly you’re contemplating a plate of hearty, nourishing protein, and that’s where BLT Steak can be a prime place to refuel. A New York-style chophouse by Laurent Tourondel that thrives on all things USDA-certified beef, it explains BLT Steaks’ increasingly worldwide presence that includes this welcome arrival to Hong Kong last year. The signature porterhouse (40oz) is enormous, fired perfectly from the grill, and perfect for sharing amongst your fellow famished shopping friends. Other top picks include the intensely beef-flavoured New York strip loins (HK$350, 16oz). Each cut is supported by broad array of sauces including the classic béarnaise or horseradish, Roquefort or BBQ sauce. Do visit the lovely outdoor seating area attached to BLT Steak, dotted with wooden seating, white umbrellas, awash in sea breeze from facing the harbour. A soothing alfresco antidote after the hustle and bustle of your retail adventure, even more so at Ocean Terminal arguably the most high traffic malls in Hong Kong. If you’re here at around 6:00 to 7:00 pm, watch the sun disappear into the horizon.

Shop G62, G/F, Ocean Terminal, Habour City, Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon.

Roka at Pacific Place
Roka recently introduced a dizzying number of new Japanese dishes including a selection crafted with the shopping mall locale in mind. There’s the sushi and sashimi-centred plates include tokusen chirashi don- sashimi and egg over sushi rice (HK$228), or sashimi with avocado and chilli soy (HK$158). “The ladies can’t get enough of it,” says executive chef Patrick Zepho. “The high quality sashimi and the fulfilling rice provide a tasty and satisfying lunch.” An afternoon tea menu, served daily from 3:00 to 6:00 pm, is also luring shopaholic ladies at the mall, including hot beverages with gourmet desserts, such as a lightly steamed banana cake with Madagascar-vanilla speckled cream or macaroons in praline or strawberry flavour. Those seeking a more filling and hearty post-shopping replenishment, Roka’s robata-style grilled dishes are reliably good usually permeating in charcoal flavour, including the Australian grain-fed Tomahawk ribeye, a whopping 20 oz steak (HK$465) with an impressive hunk of bone attached. Wash it down with Roka’s latest sake tasting set (HK$475) ideal for sharing amongst two or three people. A little wood box packed with ice arrives with three bottles of sake perched inside, each varying in body, sweetness and dryness. Start with the full-bodied and dry Akishka “bambi” Junmai sake to the  mellower medium bodied Shirayuki Honjozoi sake. The sparkling Hitotoki Rose sake is sweeter and more vibrant out of the three, also versatile enough to be paired with light starters or a palette cleansing drink to close the meal.

Habitu Ristorante at Lee Gardens
Over in ever-bustlng Causeway Bay, finding a place of peace and quiet -especially in this neighbourhood- is almost mission impossible. That makes Habitu Ristorante ideal for a shopping break. As you head up from the Tod's and Miu Miu stores on the ground floor to the rooftop of Lee Gardens Two, you'll find an unusual discovery: Habitu boasts a sprawling alfresco area made all the more charming by the garden and plants surrounding the loungers and sofas. The outdoor area leads into an intimate dining room, where casual Italian fine dining is on offer. The antipasti selection, rustic over-baked pizzas and sumptuous desserts take inspiration from homestyle cooking, but amped up with top-quality ingredients. Also ideal for a quiet Sunday brunch buffet to help you fuel up before you hit the shops.

Café Landmark at The Landmark
At the heart of this premier Central shopping plaza is Café Landmark, an expansive eatery set like the epicentre of neighbouring designer stores. It’s practically designed for the high-end mall crowd in mind, where fashion and food can fuse on various chic levels. Sleek and spacious tables in gleaming marbled surroundings, have plenty of leg room, perfect for dumping your shopping bags. Clientele swings from the flush-with-cash suits to the tote-flashing fashionistas, a scene to extend your designer-retail-spending high. The menu certainly helps when mainstream favourites are usually tucked in with upmarket ingredients at every turn. Beef carpaccio (HK$120)is vamped up with shavings of truffle.
