After the release of our recent Top 5 Vegetarian Restaurants list, the enthusiastic response made us realise that diners with special needs, whether it is for meat-free dishes or gluten-free, are often neglected on fine dining websites. Therefore, we will be launching a series of new Top 5s, which will hopefully help fill this void. And to kick-off, Asia Tatler Dining presents the top five restaurants and bakeries to serve the best egg-free cakes in town.
Harbourside Café
The Harbourside Café at the InterContinental Hong Kong in Tsim Sha Tsui offers a unique and delicious egg-free pistachio cake. Using an authentic recipe from an Indian chef, the egg-free sponge cake has a rich pistachio colour and flavour which makes it a wonderful alternative to ordinary cakes. Apart from the sought-after pistachio cake, the Harbourside Café also offers other egg-free cakes in flavours that include, chocolate, vanilla and coffee. Two-days pre-ordering is required.

Island Gourmet

One of the best sellers at the cake shop, Frou-frou is a dark chocolate mousse cake made with macaron biscuits and crispy praline. Each day, Island Gourmet sells roughly six whole Frou-frou cakes and 20 smaller individualised portions. As such, two-days ordering in advanced is advised.

Another delight for chocolate lovers is the egg-free chocolate cake at The Peninsula Boutique inside the Peninsula Hotel in Tsim Sha Tsui. This tempting chocolate truffle cake uses chocolate crumble as base, rather than the usual egg-filled sponge. The cake is filled with chocolate mousse and chocolate biscuit and finished off with chocolate glaze.
