Berry Bros & Rudd

Berry Bros and Rudd is the oldest wine and spirit merchant in Britain, having traded from the same shop on St James’s Street in London since 1698. Despite Berry’s history, it is one of the most innovative and modern wine and spirit merchants. Wines can be indented into Hong Kong if they are not available in Berry’s list here. There is a good selection available in the shop. Bordeaux includes Chateau Palmer, Chateau Margaux, Chateau Pontet Canet, Chateau Lynch Bages and Chateau La Mission Haut Brion. From Burgundy, there is the hard to find Domaine de la Romanee Conti. There is a good range of New World wines, including Torbreck and Ridge from California. Berry's also has some decent inexpensive own brand wines. Delivery is free for purchases over $1,500. All staff have received good training and are able to offer advice.

Castello Del Vino

Castello Del Vino shops are the retail outlets of Valdivia, a specialist importer of Italian wines. Unfortunately there is no website so checking what is available in advance is not possible, although staff are able to give useful suggestions and prices over the phone. Major producers include Zenato from Valpolicella, Farnese and San Felice from Tuscany, Fontanafredda from Piedmont and Cusumano from Sicily. The latter’s Nero d’Avola is excellent value at just over $100. Delivery is free for 12 bottles or purchases over $1,000.

Cellarmaster Wines

Wines are available from most parts of the world at this convenient wine shop. France, Italy, Chile and New Zealand are well represented but the strongest country is Australia. Producers such as St Hallett, Beresford, Grant Burge, Salena and Rymill are all well represented. The Connoisseurs Collection consists of wines selected for their highest quality for price ratio and the Special Cellar Collection consists of wines that are amongst the highest quality in the world. Delivery for six bottles or above is free. Joining the Cellarmaster's Wine Club has many benefits including 15 to 25 percent discount off retail prices and up to 40 percent off special offers. Members enjoy free storage and have free weekly wine tastings.

City'Super

A gourmet supermarket packed with luxury and imported goods with many products from Europe, US and Japan. A godsend to expatriates missing their home comforts, there are several sections dedicated to cuisine styles including an Italian aisle, with an excellent selection of dried pasta, and a US aisle with everything from Heinz sandwich pickle to Reese's peanut butter cups. There is also good fresh produce section with an excellent variety of fresh herbs and organic fruit as well as a meats and cheese counter and a bakery. The wine and spirits area has a broad selection of wines with very knowledgeable staff. You can expect to pay a premium for the excellent service and imported produce.

Classified

Classified is a cheese and wine specialist attached to The Press Room restaurant. It features Asia's only temperature and humidity controlled cheese room. There is a deli counter with a huge range of international meats and condiments, exclusive gourmet brands of olive oil, honey, jam chocolate and shortbread as well as a wine selection of New World and Old World wines. Customers can choose from a wide variety of cheese and charcuterie platters to try in the attached café and enjoy an extensive range of wines by the glass. This rustic and cosy cafe also serves cold cuts, salads and sandwiches. Prices range from $59 for 100 grams of a standard English cheddar to $85 for 100 grams of the famous and unusual Stinking Bishop cheese. Staff are warm, welcoming and clearly passionate about their products.
