Setting
Named after the home village of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, Tsui Hang Village re-opened in May 2011 after months of renovation to give the dining room a contemporary makeover. Cool gray walls offer patrons a soothing dining atmosphere. Turquoise glass birds hanging from the ceiling in the main dining room are an elegant and whimsical touch. |

Food
Though the dining room has been given a modern makeover, the cuisine at Tsui Hang Village remains classic Cantonese. Start with the signature barbecued pork with honey, a generous serving of sliced tender smoky pork in a sweet honey sauce, or the immensely popular hand-shredded boneless chicken. During lunch, a selection of dim sum dishes is also available and include classics such as siu mai, dumplings made with ground pork, and har gow, shrimp dumplings in translucent skin. Sauteed sugar pea shoots with hairy crab roe features vibrant, perfectly cooked pea shoots topped with luxurious, unctuous morsels of roe. Sauteed shrimps with chilli sauce is prepared with succulent, delicate shrimp quickly wok-tossed with sweet-spicy chilli. Tsui Hang Village turns out perfect fried rice, with each kernel of rice perfectly seasoned. Try the fried rice with conpoy, dried fish and roasted duck meat, a delicious combination of savoury flavours. |

Wine
A limited wine and liquor selection is available. Though a tea menu is not offered, Tsui Hang Village carries all of the classic teas to accompany a traditional Cantonese meal. Chrysanthemum tea, light and fragrant, has cooling elements while Pu-erh tea, which has a strong earthy flavor from fermented tea leaves, helps break down oily foods. |

Service
Service at Tsui Hang Village could use some fine-tuning. Perhaps due to the bustling crowd of patrons, service can be a bit brisk with wait staff displaying some impatience and hurrying diners through the meal. Patrons seated in the private rooms, which are used as overflow rooms during peak dining hours, may find it difficult to flag down a waiter for service. |

Rice Dumplings at Tsui Hang Village
For some, Dragon Boat Festival means getting hot and sweaty, paddling furiously around Stanley. For others, Dragon Boat Festival means one thing and one thing only: indulging in as many rice dumplings as possible. If you're the latter like us, then it's never too early to start placing your orders from Tsui Hang Village, the renowned and traditional Cantonese restaurant. We will most definitely be trying the following:
- purple rice dumpling with abalone and air-dried ham, pork belly and split peas
- conpoy rice dumpling with dried mushrooms, barbecued duck slices, pork belly, lotus seeds and preserved duck egg yolk
- cumquat sweet rice dumpling with mashed cumquat
If you're truly greedy, make sure to order the limited edition duo set, which gives you one savoury and one sweet dumpling. There are also various early bird discounts on offer, so hurry.
The dumplings can be purchased at Cuisine Cuisine in both IFC and The Mira, the Sichuan restaurant Yunyan in Tsim Sha Tsui and Union Hospital Cafeteria in Sha Tin. |
