Setting
On the mezzanine floor of the Grand Hyatt hotel in Wan Chai, Tiffin lounge boasts floor to ceiling windows. The view is peaceful: overlooking a tranquil public park with verdant trees and shrubs and waterfalls. Central and Victoria Harbour can be seen in the distance. Lounge seating is comfortable though showing signs of wear and tear and will be replaced very soon. A live musical trio adds to the gentle ambience.

Food
Buffets are the reason to come to Tiffin. Lunch, afternoon tea, dinner, and evening dessert buffets all offer differing cuisine and pricing. Sunday brunch, whilst the most expensive, is also the most extensive. Classic eggs Benedict on honey roasted ham leg accompanied by unlimited glasses of Moet Chandon rose Champagne is a fabulous way to start a lazy Sunday. Move on to seafood on ice which features clams, crab, sea snails and fresh prawns. The smoked salmon is especially good. Brunch also offers freshly cooked pan-fried foie gras, baked Boston lobster thermidor and a rather moist steak tartar. Roast ribeye of beef is served at your tableside alongside roast potatoes. Indian chefs have always prepared a number of excellent curries at the Grand Hyatt but with the closure of the Thai restaurant, the chefs now ply their trade in Tiffin, adding to the variety. Desserts are prolific. Ice creams and sorbets are popular, especially the ones made with passion fruit. There are also many tarts and puddings made with mango. Cheese is a mundane assortment. Unlimited freshly squeezed juices such as orange, pineapple, carrot and apple are included as are an exotic selection of Ronnefeldt speciality teas such as strawberry with yoghurt and orange pekoe.

Wine
Whilst Tiffin has its own wine list, the master list for the Grand Hyatt is also available on request as is the knowledgeable Sommelier, Christophe Orlarei. Around twenty well-chosen wines are available by the glass including several Champagnes. Best value is the unlimited flow of Moet et Chandon Rose Champagne for HK$60 at Sunday brunch. Otherwise prices are typical of five-star hotels.

Service
Impeccable as to be expected in the Grand Hyatt. Staff always have a pleasant smile and nothing is too much trouble.
Price
In view of the vast range of dishes and their quality, pricing is reasonable. Lunch buffet is HK$308 and afternoon tea HK$218. Dinner, which includes dessert buffet, is HK$538 or if you’re after dessert only, the buffet is HK$228. Sunday brunch is HK$638.
