Setting
Tastefully decorated in an elegant banquet-style setting, the main dining room at Summer Palace at the Island Shangri-la in Admiralty showcases beautiful Chinese art on gold embossed walls, as well as ornately carved wood panels and beautiful lacquered wood doors. Care is put into every detail at Summer Palace, from the delicate teal teacups to the elegant silverware. Several private dining rooms are available – perfect for family gatherings or celebratory events.

Food
An extensive menu highlighting the best of Cantonese fine dining is available for lunch and dinner, but a dim sum menu is also available during lunch hours. If you’re going for lunch, start with dim sum favourites such as rice rolls filled with succulent shrimp or shrimp dumplings – the freshest ingredients elevate the popular Hong Kong dish to fine dining. The roast whole Peking duck is great for larger groups – servers slice and prepare the crispy skin in pancakes tableside. You can’t go wrong with any of their live seafood offerings, but the live crab sautéed with ginger and spring onions is a real crowd-pleaser. Beggar’s chicken and eight-treasure duck should be ordered 24 hours in advance. Crispy chicken with spicy herbs, a signature dish, would more aptly be described as poached chicken with ginger oil, but is a delicious and well-executed version of a Hong Kong staple. A half portion will serve two people generously. The stewed ox brisket with turnip in clay pot is pure comfort food – the beef is perfectly braised and tender and the turnip adds a touch of sweetness. For dessert, the chilled sago cream with mango juice and pomelo is a perfect light and refreshing ending. The chilled sago cream with red beans in coconut juice is also an excellent way to finish any meal.

Wine
An impressive wine and tea list is offered at Summer Palace. The premier tea menu includes helpful notes about the benefits of each tea. The Taiwan Dong Ding oolong tea is subtly fragrant and pairs well with any meat or seafood dish. Wines are grouped geographically and include unique labels, including a Chateau Musar 2000 from Lebanon.
