Setting
Lux is situated in the iconic drinking and dining area of Lan Kwai Fong in Central and its new location and refurbishment is small albeit no less trendy than the old venue. The ground floor bar is decorated in simple red and wood tones and is the perfect place for a quick aperitif before dinner. The atmosphere is cosy and staff are highly trained with excellent service skills and make you feel at home as soon as you sit down.

Food
Lux specialises in modern European cuisine and does it well. The menu has an array of seafood, poultry, meats and salads, although vegetarians have limited choices in what to eat. The Lux platters are an ideal way to start a meal and are perfect for sharing. The charcuterie platter (HK$140) combines Joselito jamon Iberico, chorizo Iberico, Toscana salami and coppa di Parma ham all served with a side of black olives, shallots and cherry tomatoes. Other platters include the grilled organic vegetable choice for vegetarians and the artisan cheese platter for those dining with a nice glass of wine. Also for sharing is the pan-fried goose liver with caramelised apple and cranberry orange sauce on Melba toast (HK$170). The goose liver comes in generous portions and is cooked perfectly and the sauces match well. Overall, this dish is value for money. The Joselito jamon Iberico (HK$180) is served in 100g portions and carved from the bone right there in the restaurant and is succulent, fresh and fatty – just as it should be. Lux’s specialties are from the charcoal grill and choices are made up of seafood, lamb, Angus beef and poultry. The French whole game hen (HK$195) is cooked with butter and thyme and the meat is juicy and tender and served with a morel mushroom sauce. There are, of course a selection of favourites including pasta, pizza and a Kobe beef burger. The dessert selection is limited but the crepes Suzette with vanilla ice cream and flambéed in Grand Marnier (HK$68) is a solid treat for the end of the meal.

Wine
Lux has a decent wine list with a great range of wines from the old and new world and encompasses all price ranges. There are a good choice of wines by the glass including wines that match the food perfectly and champagne. Also on the wine list are some of the best wines from Bordeaux if you feel like splashing out on something special.

Service
The service in Lux is great with knowledgeable waiting staff that is attentive and competent. Staff can recommend dishes from the menu and wines to match the food that is ordered. Seating is prompt and service is friendly and efficient.
Price
Dinner for two will come to about HK$500 per person with a glass of wine each, which is good value due to the high quality of the food and service.
