Setting
This Argentinian steak spot is intimate, with closely spaced tables and dim lighting, contributing to a convivial atmosphere in which you can easily get to know other patrons.

Food
You don’t come to La Pampa if you don’t like meat. Do try empanada appetiser, which comes in beef and chicken incarnations. It’s guaranteed to whet your appetite without filling you up. Steak makes up most of the menu, whether its grilled cuts of sirloin or tenderloin, deep-fried medallions, a thick cut of roast beef or even mixed with chicken and other veggies on a skewer. There are other species too – the odd lamb rack here, a roast chicken there – but a glance around the room tells you that isn’t what anybody came for. Grilled lomo (tenderloin) lives up to its name as La Pampa’s signature dish, with a smokey flavour and cushiony consistency, but if you’re in the mood for something a little different, breaded tenderloin medallions with ham, cheese and tomato sauce is an inspired take and perfect anyone with a less ravenous appetite, given that the steaks start at 250g apiece. There are plenty desserts to choose from, including pancake with choice of milk jam or apple, chocolate mousse and more.

Wine
The wine list exceeds the food menu in terms of length, with predominantly Argentine wines, including the house pours, and a small selection of European bottles.

Service
While the staff are helpful and polite, they could be more attentive.
Price
A filling three-course meal with wine will set you back around $1,000.
