Setting
Boasting a convenient location at IFC mall and impressive harbour views, visible through floor-to-ceiling windows or sprawling outdoor terrace, it is no wonder Isola has been a popular destination since 2004. The bustling open kitchens, hardwood floors, signature white lace ceiling features and abundance of crisp white fabric make this Italian restaurant a sleek spot to sip cocktails or enjoy a dinner with a group of friends. The tables however, are spaced a little close for comfort, and the temperature inside borders on arctic.

Food
As the decor would suggest, it is modern yet rustic Italian all the way at Isola. We start off the night with the quintessential Italian staple, beef carpaccio on arugula leaves with balsamic, topped with lemon and Parmigiano Reggiano (HK$198) which is slightly under seasoned. The fresh creamed burrata mozzarella with coppa ham from Puglia, roasted bell peppers and big green olives (HK$168) is a perfect balance of flavours, however the cheese itself is solid-centred instead of the molten velvet it should be. Much to our disappointment, pizzas are mysteriously off the menu the night we visit, so we opt for the hand-twisted pasta with Parma ham, black truffle, fava beans and Norcia cheese (HK$198) instead. The pasta is the perfect al dente and the shards of Parma ham provide a salty accent to balance the richness of the cheese, but the black truffle was nowhere to be found. The roasted king prawns wrapped in Colonnata cured ham, pistachio and coconut flakes (HK$288) are unique: but the coconut, a dominant flavour, becomes cloying by the second prawn. For dessert lovers, Isola does not disappoint. The carrot bourbon vanilla crème brûlée with yoghurt ice cream (HK$98) is perfectly punctuated by the tart ice cream, the crunchy topping and smooth cream a flawless marriage of flavours and textures. The Amedei black 70% chocolate hot pudding with mocha ice cream (HK$118) is, as its name would imply, intensely chocolate in flavour, with the ice cream adding a dense caffeine hit.

Wine
A selection of predominantly Italian wines and sparklings are on offer, ranging from by the glass to magnum sized, and there is something to suit every budget. However, wait staff should possess more knowledge of the wine list, which currently does not go beyond the most basic.

Service
While there are a few errors, they were rectified immediately and discreetly. However, while Isola swarmed with friendly wait staff, it was strangely difficult to catch their attention.
Price
Dinner for two will come to roughly HK$1,100 without wine, which is not unreasonable considering the location and view, however the consistency of the food and service can be improved.
