Setting
Just a few steps from the bustling casino of Wynn Macau, diners are transported to a warm and lavishly burnished atmosphere at Golden Flower. Stunning Chinese antique cabinets, chinoiserie and embroidered chairs give this signature restaurant at the Wynn a decadent and romantic atmosphere. The opulence interior is styled after the ornate Qing Dynasty and each table is adorned by a lamp that mimics the Qing Dynasty hat. There are two spacious dining rooms that offer an intimate atmosphere for group gatherings and family banquets, perfect for celebratory occasions.

Food
Golden Flower’s menu presents haute Chinese cuisine from the imperial kitchens of the Qing Dynasty. Apart from the signature aristocratic Tan cuisine, there are also a diverse range of selections from the flavourful Lu and Sichuan cuisines. There are over 20 different cold appetisers and indecisive diners can create a sampler plate with small portions of their selected dishes (around MOP100 for three choices). The lean and flavourful Beijing roasted pork is a popular choice while the sweet and sour cabbage with chilli vinaigrette awakens the palate for the heavier meal that follows. Highlights include a stewed fish maw with crab claw in supreme chicken soup (MOP688). The soup is golden, thick and full of flavour, and the perfectly soft fish maw has fully absorbed all the flavours of the soup. The crab claw is succulent and gives an interesting texture element to the soup. The sliced broiled beef served with sesame puffs (MOP148) is another signature dish of the restaurant; however, it is more disappointing. The meat has already lost most of its juices when it arrives on a sizzling pan, a tough and dry filling for the pastry puff. A vegetarian option is the stir-fried five-colour seasonal vegetables (MOP118), which consists of lotus root, ginkgo, asparagus, celery and lily delicately wrapped in a beancurd sheet pocket. All ingredients are incredibly fresh and cooked to a perfect texture. The mango and pumpkin pudding is a delightful dessert, creamy without being too sweet. For those who still have room and want to try something very traditional, the imperial dessert sampler with four delicate Chinese pastries including glutinous rice rolls with sweet bean and sesame is a decadent way to end the meal.

Golden Flower has an excellent selection of beverages unusual for most Chinese restaurants, ranging from Chinese moutai to wines from the old and new world, available by the glass and by half bottle. If you are a tea-lover, don’t miss the chance to meet with the resident tea expert for tips on tea pairing.

Service is flawless and courteous as to be expected in a hotel of Wynn Macau’s calibre. From friendly greetings to knowledge of how dishes are prepared, the staff at Golden Flower makes dining here a memorable experience.
Price
A fulfilling meal for two including premium ingredients will come to about MOP2,000. While this is not inexpensive, it is absolutely worth it for one of the finest Chinese haute dining experiences out there.
