Setting
If you thought Dragon-i was simply one of Hong Kong’s hottest club venues to see and be seen, think again. Dragon-i doubles as a modern restaurant featuring delicious Japanese and Chinese cuisine in a sleek and sexy lounge setting. Black walls and black leather banquettes are complemented by red hanging lanterns of various sizes, which provide a contemporary Asian ambience. Hanging birdcages adorn the expansive patio, which overlooks Wyndham Street.

Food
The New Black Plate is the perfect starter course for two and includes two bite-sized portions each of luxurious Kobe beef tartar topped with gold leaf, abalone and crabmeat with lobster salad as well as deep-fried almond minced prawn dumpling. Every bite offers a unique and delicious combination of flavours. From the Japanese section, the hotategai-rainbow maki prepared with spicy scallops and asparagus inside a roll topped with avocado, uni, amaebi and salmon tartar is creative and delicious and the roll is made with jet-fresh fish. From the Chinese side, the Sichuan-style hot beef consists of tender slices of beef sautéed with green onions and bean sprouts in a moderately spicy sauce. The pregnant women’s fried rice is a well-executed version made with asparagus, dried shrimp, scallions and dark soy sauce. Stir-fried organic pea sprouts with sesame and dried bonito flakes is a fresh and vibrant vegetable option, perfectly cooked and seasoned. The helpful menu indicates signature dishes with a picture of Bruce Lee doing a karate kick – the footnotes indicate that such dishes are “kickass. . .must try”.

Wine
The drink menu at Dragon-i focuses on cocktails and spirits rather than wines, although a selection of wines by the glass is available. Tequila lovers should try the Patron Cosmopolitan made with Patron Silver, Patron Citronge, cranberry juice and lime.
