BLT Steak is situated on the waterfront of Ocean Terminal in Tsim Sha Tsui and if you book a table outside you can marvel at the wonder that is the skyline of Hong Kong island. Go for dinner and experience the phenomenal views of Hong Kong and its nightly light show at 8pm. The atmosphere is pleasant albeit there are a lot of tables squeezed into the restaurant and the air conditioning is rather cold. The interior is well-decorated and the staff will make you feel at home once you have sat down.
Food
BLT Steak specialises in steaks from the US and Australia and there is plenty to choose from on the menu. The menu has an array of seafood, poultry, meats and salads, although vegetarians will most likely leave hungry and well out of pocket. The portion sizes of the appetisers are not huge overall which is one major fault considering the price. The yellowfin tuna tartar with avocado and soy lime dressing (HK$158) is small and comes in a bowl of ice but the flavours are nice and presentation is immaculate. From the raw bar, the half dozen oysters (HK$158) are not overly fresh and had not been cleaned properly but again presentation is impeccable. Mains, on the other hand, are large, ranging from an 8oz USDA filet (HK$308) to the Australian porterhouse for two (38oz will set you back HK$1,100). The steaks are cooked to order and come with an array of sauce choices including Roquefort, barbecue and peppercorn. For sides, the creamed spinach (HK$62) is heavy and thick and whilst made well, did not overly inspire. The Maine lobster salad “Cobb” style (HK$248) is lacking in its portion of lobster for the price but was, overall, fresh and tasty. Dessert choices are extensive and for the glutton the crepe soufflé with passion fruit sauce (HK$98) is a must, but for those with a healthier end in mind the fruit and berries (HK$80) is a good choice.
Wine
BLT Steak has a large master wine list with a great range of wines from the old and new world and encompasses all price ranges. There are a good choice of wines by the glass including both Prosecco and Champagne. If ending the meal in style is the game then they also have a selection of sherry and dessert wines to give that sweet kick at the end of the meal.
Service
BLT Steak's service is fine, although fine dining it is not and do not expect anyone to ask how the meal is once it has been served to you. But the waiting staff are knowledgeable in both the menu and the wine list and, if you make a booking, expect to be seated quickly and efficiently.
Price
Dinner for two will come to around HK$650 per person with a glass of wine each, which is acceptable given the fantastic views of Hong Kong, but only if you are seated outside.
